Who am I?

“Who am I?” I believe this to be one of the most difficult questions one could attempt to answer. The original draft of this page was long and explored Cartesian philosophy, determinism, free will, and the self. Maybe one day I’ll explore these ideas properly on the page and share it under Essays, but until then I’ll cut it short for the sake of brevity.

I believe in hard determinism. I believe everything happens exactly as it must — the only way it ever could. I believe that we are neither our actions nor our thoughts, but the observer of these. “Cogito ergo sum”sed non ego sum qui cogito — but I am not the one who thinks. I believe the self to be a spectator witnessing a predestined play, and nothing more. This is my answer to the question, “Who am I?”

But you, dear reader, are probably not interested in such abstract ideas. So in place of philosophy let me write history instead, and allow me to humanise the author behind these words.
